The ingredients needed to make Banana flower vada curry:
- Prepare 150 gm banana flower
- Get 100 gm chana dal
- Prepare 2 Onion
- Prepare 1 tomato
- Make ready 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- Make ready 1 streak Curry leaves
- Prepare 1 tsp saunf/fennel seeds
- Get 1 inch Ginger
- Take 2 green chillies
- Get 1/2 coconut milk
- Take 1 tbsp chilli powder
- Get 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Prepare 1 tsp garam masala
- Take to taste salt
Take a lemon sized ball of the batter, flatten it with your hands and form into a disc. First coarsely grind the banana flowers along with pinched red chillies,hing,ginger ,fennel seeds and salt. Drain the water in the soaked chana dal and grind it without adding water. The water content in vazhaipoo itself is enough to grind.
Instructions to make Banana flower vada curry:
- Soak chana dal for 30 mins and grind to coarse paste without adding any water.
- Add required salt, chopped onion, chopped green chillies and chopped banana flowers and chopped curry leaves
- Make vada/ patties with the above mixture and deep fry in hot oil. Vada is ready
- In a deep pan add oil. Once the oil is hot, add saunf, and whole garam masala and saute for a minute. then add chopped onion
- Add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute
- Now add in all the spices and saute for 2 minutes. Then add chopped tomatoes.
- Once the tomatoes are mushy, add 1/2 cup of coconut milk and water as required and let it boil for 5 minutes
- Now add the broken pieces of the patties/ vadas to the boiling curry
- Let it boil for another 5 mins and switch off the stove. Add in chopped coriander leaves. Yummy and healthy banana flower vada curry is ready..
Take the vada batter in a wide bowl. Here is how to make healthy and crispy vada using banana flower. For preparing banana flower vada, soak bengal gram dal in water for half an hour. Add salt and rice flour and mix them well. The traditional way to do the vadacurry is to deep fry the vadais and then add it to the curry.
